A riot means,a form of civil disorder characterized often by disorganized group lashing out the sudden intense rash of violence against authority, property or people.
Between 6 and 10 August 2011,a lot of London districts, and many towns in England have faced widespread rioting and looting. What i want to share here is,just a simple question..why this riots occurred, here in London??....
First of all,to answer such question,we need to understand the socio-economic in Britain. This is because, between one of the big reasons the riots occurred was due to the differences and huge gap between rich and poor.In the real scenario, this riots in the Britain have prompted many to look closer at what is happening over there. Many experts think that, the differences in socio-economics which is the income inequality is compounded by a sense of deprivation, racism and distrust of the police. Consumerism has heightened the sense of relative deprivation and prompted some to take short-cuts to achieve the usual, superficial trappings of youthful yearning – hence the looting of high-street shops selling merchandise much coveted by the youth.
But,in fact, according to actual story, this riots happened was the result of a group of youngsters who took the opportunity to create chaos during the protest the death of Mark Duggan who was shot dead by the police where he was in a state of defenseless.Mark Duggan is a young black British citizens.Their concerns was very legitimate. This fact shows that, their concern were very low because of differences in skin, thus showing that there are still racial differences among people in UK.
The victim's family decided to demonstrate with dignity and peace to express their feelings to avenge the death of Mark Duggan. In the beginning, the protest was held peacefully, until suddenly a very quickly gang members of youth took an advantage of the situation and started to destroy cars, building, premises and robbing innocent citizens.
Most experts also say that, the young protesters was not really into justice or equality for the death of Mark Duggan.Their action was actually based on the influences from electronic media such as games and virtual culture where destroying things seemed easy in reality. This event is also seen as a revolt of the youngsters in social justice. It is also due to the moral decay which is ,the rich and powerful generating anger among the British people and shows a bad example. The recent cases occurred such as MP's expenses scandal, bankers bonuses and the phone hacking scandal have set a poor examples.
Besides that,it has been clearly shows the real attitude of the young generation in Britain - very rude, arrogant, violent and disrespectful of others without limitation as a result of free culture. They (youngsters) took advantage of the peaceful death protest to violent and form a street gangs and gathered together to make chaos.
The violence has also hit other cities in England on Saturday night, but in London, where police placed additional members,it generally has been recovered following the chaos of three consecutive nights where teenagers crashed into damaging public property.
According to one report, one of the senior officer of Scotland Yard stated that,"there is no injustice or something that happened to cause chaos. It is a purely criminal act,the most horrific things i have ever seen."Through this statement,we can conclude that, there are something going wrong, deeply wrong,in British society.
What we can say is,maybe the law enforcement in Britain was not 100% enforced or the education system was not going well. The four day riot that resulted of 100 million pound, while the police need additional provisions to cover operation.A total of 16000 members from 30 teams located in London to control the riots maybe, compared 6000 in last week.
This riot is the biggest test to David Cameron as Prime Minister of Britain when Britain try to get out of its economics crisis. It also show the world the bad Image of London before hosting 2012 Olympic tournament.
This is just as my opinion..
wallahualam..
